Hunt Seat Basics

Hunt Seat Basics is where most of our riders begin. Each lesson starts with grooming and tacking up, then moves from the rail to simple patterns and ground poles. Nell keeps groups to five riders so everyone gets a turn and a correction.

What you will learn.

Over a season, riders in Hunt Seat Basics work toward:

  • A secure two-point position at the walk and trot

  • Steering through circles, serpentines and poles

  • Posting on the correct diagonal

  • Tacking up and cooling out a horse on their own

What to wear

Riding helmet, paddock boots with a heel and long pants.
